Attach importance to the development of industrial design industry from a strategic point of view
(Summary description)
Industrial design is the value core of the industrial economy, and it is an innovative activity that integrates and optimizes the functions, structures, processes, appearance, and prototypes of industrial products. Its importance is mainly reflected in four aspects: creating product differentiation, advancing technology marketization, increasing industrial added value, and optimizing and rebuilding the industrial system.
Since the 1970s, more than 20 countries around the world have incorporated the promotion of industrial design industrialization into their national strategies. They believe that industrial design is an important part of the country’s soft power, and four types of development drive paths have been formed, namely: The cultural and creative driving path represented by the United Kingdom, the commercial market driving path represented by the United States, the high-end manufacturing driving path represented by Germany and Japan, and the national policy driving path represented by South Korea and Northern Europe, and help these countries occupy international manufacturing The high value-added link upstream of the division of labor chain.
Main Problems Existing in the Development of my country's Industrial Design Industry
Although my country's industrial design industry has made some progress, there are still some outstanding problems in the manufacturing industry's variety development, prototype cultivation, added value enhancement, and manufacturing process optimization.
(1) The design system is not perfect, and the professional technical ability is not strong
On the one hand, it lacks a complete industrial design technology system. As a typical intelligence-intensive and technology-intensive business, the knowledge management and skill management of industrial design are still at a relatively low level among Chinese manufacturing companies, and the processes and methods of modern industrial design are not yet in the company’s product development, production and service processes. When traditional manufacturing companies try to transform and upgrade through design innovation, it is often difficult to effectively cultivate, develop, integrate and apply design innovation elements. The design requirements in the consumer market cannot be effectively introduced into the actual product development process. The overall industrial design It is still in the "extracorporeal circulation" of the product development process of the manufacturing enterprise. On the other hand, there is a lack of effective support for independent design prototypes and lifestyle model research. Industrial design promotes the transformation and upgrading of the manufacturing industry by advancing technology marketization, creating product differentiation, and enhancing product value content. The development and storage of independent design prototypes and lifestyle models will largely determine the quality and depth of design innovation . Since Chinese manufacturing companies have not yet extensively touched on the construction of the core level of product value, the industrial design innovation of a large number of companies has long stayed at a relatively shallow level such as product appearance or service expression, and lacks design prototypes and lifestyle models for product functional structure and experience methods. The in-depth research and development and innovation of the company have caused the problem of product homogeneity to become more and more serious. In addition, industry leaders and leading talents in the design field are generally lacking. my country lacks design-driven manufacturing companies such as Apple and Sony, and brand service companies such as IBM and Oracle that provide integrated innovative solutions. There is also a shortage of companies such as Philips. Stark, Naoto Fukasawa and other design masters with global influence.
(2) Lack of enterprise application awareness
First, a large number of domestic manufacturing companies have formed a long-term inertia of "introduction-digestion" thinking, which has caused serious dependence on imitation and plagiarism in the product design link. Industrial design has never been truly included in the cost structure of product research and development, especially lacking in variety In-depth R&D and preparations such as development, prototype cultivation, user experience, and manufacturing process optimization have led to the design process becoming a hotbed of imitation and simple improvement. The second is that relatively single technical indicators and marketing feedback under functional consumption patterns have become universal product evaluation standards, and business managers have not really realized that design innovations under service and experience consumption patterns can increase product added value, foster and create The important role of emerging consumer markets.

(3) The market mechanism is not yet sound
On the one hand, the intellectual property protection system related to industrial design is still relatively loose on the whole, and the current management and evaluation methods have failed to effectively curb the phenomenon of design imitation and plagiarism. Taking appearance patents as an example, although the average annual growth rate of appearance patents in China has exceeded 30% in recent years, there are still a large number of relatively vague rules in the setting of patent terms, such as limiting the number of visual similarities in product modeling details, which makes design plagiarism, Brand imitation and other phenomena have become the norm due to low infringement costs, making it difficult for companies to effectively protect and add value to product design and R&D investment in market operations, severely weakening the enthusiasm of these companies to carry out design innovations, and making a lot of them closely related to design experience Related manufacturing sectors are often caught in vicious competition with low quality and low prices. On the other hand, the statistical system of industrial design is not yet mature. Many regions have not yet clarified the statistical classification of industrial design. There is also a lack of a standardized professional qualification certification system for design practitioners, resulting in severely limited room for professionalization and labor compensation. Compared with the industry, it is at a lower level, and the phenomenon of brain drain is serious.
(4) The policy environment needs to be improved urgently
Although relevant departments and local governments attach importance to the promotion of industrial design in the transformation and upgrading of manufacturing, "technology-driven manufacturing enterprises" and "processing-driven manufacturing enterprises" are still generally in the old mode of low value-added product output, and have not been able to find To implement an effective path for industrial design innovation and branding development, it is urgent to strengthen the policy deployment for the docking of the design technology system and the manufacturing system. At the same time, because industrial design belongs to the cross-field of industry and culture, the problem of multi-management is more prominent, and policies at different periods and stages lack systemicity and continuity. In addition, for a large number of small, medium and micro manufacturing companies, the introduction of industrial design innovation still needs to use effective public service platforms and financial platforms to reduce R&D costs, and the existing policy system is insufficient for this deployment.
